The year has gone by at an incredible pace. 2009 has been a real success thanks to all of you who downloaded the software and those who deployed it for enterprise purposes. The Jahia Community is becoming more and more popular in the Open Source Community as the amount of memberships has more than tripled over last year. Product
In a recent analysis, Gartner stated "WCMs are all getting social in 2010." Months before that statement, the Jahia team was working hardon incorporating new social modules in the Jahia Web Content Management platform.
Although these effort were initiated in Jahia v6,we are going further in the next edition with a variety of new social functionalities:
- User profile and dashboard
- Task assignment linked to workflows and notifications
- Jahia Wiki Application
- Jahia Blog Application
Complete User Profile Management
We have improved the user profile experience (the way a user may view
or modify his personal information) to allow for intuitive and
"in-the-page" modification of profile data. We have re-used the inline
editing technology pioneered in Jahia v6 to make it easy for users to
quickly and easily update forms, reducing also the amount of clicks
needed.
Moreover, user can personalize their own profile with new properties
such as pictures, videos, tags and links and decide whether the
information is public and accessible to everyone logged in the website
or private (only for the editor or for a group of users).
For the more technically inclined, it works like this: we have
introduced a new on-page editing framework, that may also be re-used
outside of user profile screens and that allows to make it easy to
edit content directly on the page using a combination of Javascript,
AJAX and JSON technologies. This framework is very easy to integrate,
and requires almost no programming skills. It provides default editing
selectors for simple texts, rich texts, date selectors and many more
to come. It is also possible to develop custom selectors should the
need arise.
Task assignment
We have implemented tasks management so a user can assign tasks to herself and prepare todo lists for any other user and follow the status of each task. A user can refuse, accept, start and end this task at anytime. The task status will be visible in the user dashboard. Here is another very powerful feature: tasks can be assigned by Jahia itself using rules and rights set on the platform for instance.
Jahia Wiki Application
The R&D team added a wiki style application to the platform allowing users to collaboratively create, and edit, wiki pages (using one of the chosen wiki syntax between 12), all in live mode. The content, including all current and previous revisions, is stored in the JCR so it is possible to view and compare very quickly the different versions and moderate them as needed.

Jahia Blog Application
We have created a new Blog Application designed to run as a stand alone blog platform or to be plugged into an existing Jahia project.
The main goal was to provide a fresh well designed, efficiently coded and standards-based blog application. This new application will provide a solid and flexible platform for anyone to deploy user generated blogs with a complete set of features such as direct content creation (no popup, no edit mode), comments, quotes, votes, tags and faceted search.
